The Media Reform Coordinating Group
Sierra Leone (MRCG-SL) came into ex
istence as a recommendation of the
National Media Strategy Document that was
formulated in 2013. The development of the
national media strategy for Sierra Leone was
funded by UNDP and UNESCO. This initiative
was preceded by a comprehensive study to map
the capacity needs of the media sector. The
study revealed some of the major issues affect
ing the media in Sierra Leone, including ethical
challenges, hostile regulatory frameworks, un
professionalism and financially strained media.
