REGIONAL TRAINING ON TRASITIONAL JUSTICE REPORTING IN SIERRA LEONE

In September 2024, the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG), with support from the Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) under the project entitled “Engaging Media and Communities to Change the Narrative on Transitional Justice (#TJ) Issues in Sierra Leone”, conducted a regional training for journalists in Freetown, Makeni and Kenema on transitional justice reporting. The training was organized to educate and engage participants on various aspects of transitional justice mechanisms in Sierra Leone. The training aimed at equipping media professionals with essential knowledge and skills on reporting on #TJ mechanisms effectively. Covering key topics such as truth commissions, reparations, and accountability, the session focused on enhancing journalists’ understanding of how to handle sensitive issues with accuracy and sensitivity. By exploring best practices and addressing local contexts, the training sought to strengthen the role of the media in supporting justice and reconciliation efforts in the country. The event was attended by representatives from the Sierra Leone Peace Museum, media professionals, journalists and other stakeholders across the country. The training featured a series of presentations, discussions, and interactive sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding and capacity to address #TJ issues.
