WHAT WE DO

Media Freedom

On Media Freedom, the MRCG has over the years championed media freedom initiatives, by monitoring and reporting and press freedom issues, advocating media reforms, partnering with other national media organizations across the country to ensure professionalism in the media landscape of Sierra Leone.

Freedom of Expression

Since 2018, MRCG has documented all freedom of expression violation meted against journalists, media workers, civil society activists and the ordinary citizens. MRCG has also strengthened democratic dialogue and consolidated peace and ensured development through professional, independent and sustainable media based on the right to freedom of expression

Digital Rights

The MRCG has provided not only capacity building trainings on digital rights but has also monitored digital and internet rights especially for female journalists across Sierra Leone. With support from its partners, the MRCG had trained over 200+ female journalists specifically on women’s rights online issues

Media, Good Governance and Development

In the last Media Development Strategy of the MRCG (2020-2024), the MRCG ensured the promotion of an enabling media environment through legislative, regulatory
and self-regulatory system reforms that are in line with international norms, increased professionalism in the media landscape, promoted gender concerns and addressed women specific issues within the media, supported and enhanced sustainability of media institutions, revenue generation, and effective and efficient governance and management systems, encouraged democratic dialogue and audience engagement with media that provide a platform for debate and responsible engagements and national development.

Research and Advocacy

MRCG conducts periodic research on media development initiatives for best practice, and advocates same in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, and other media development agencies across the countrya
